For the second consecutive year, Cal U head football coach Gary Dunn, his staff and team have been recognized for their efforts with the Andy Talley Bone Marrow Foundation.

Each of the past two spring semesters, the Cal U football program has participated in the "Get in the Game, Save a Life" initiative, a partnership of the Andy Talley Bone Marrow Foundation and Be The Match Foundation.

The mission of the Andy Talley Bone Marrow Foundation, which raises awareness, funds and registers donors, is to increase the odds of finding lifesaving donors for patients in need of a marrow transplant by registering young, committed donors to the Be The Match Registry.

Cal U was one of 108 colleges or universities that participated in the GITG marrow donor recruitment drive in 2018 and registered 169 new committed donors to the Be The Match Registry.

At the American Football Coaches Association Convention last winter, Dunn was honored as a “Donor Recruiter Rookie Donor of the Year” by the Talley Foundation for the team’s initial involvement in 2017.

"This has been a very successful endeavor to help others," said Dunn, who is preparing for his third season as head coach. "Our student-athletes scoured the campus and recruited all over, bringing people to our booth at the student center."
