Two Runners Compete at NCAA Nationals

Senior Julie Friend and junior Jae´Len Means will compete at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Women’s and Men’s Track and Field National Championships May 24-26 at the Irwin Belk Complex in Charlotte, N.C.

The championships will be streamed live on www.NCAA.com

Friend competes in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase preliminaries at 7:10 p.m. May 24, with hopes of advancing to the finals at 7:30 p.m. May 25.

Friend has earned outdoor All-American honors twice in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, in 2014 and 2016. She also earned indoor All-American honors in this event for the first time in March 2018. 

Means begins action in the men’s 100-meter dash at 6:10 p.m. May 24, with the finals at 4:45 p.m. May 26. He also competes in the 200-meter preliminaries at 5:35 p.m. May 25; the finals will be held at 5:50 p.m. May 26. 

He won both of these events and was named the Most Outstanding Track Athlete at the PSAC Championships earlier this month.

In all, 754 student-athletes — 377 men and 377 women — will compete in the championships.
