Welcome Center Opens in Natali

Oct 02, 2020

Our future Vulcans begin their Cal U journey in a new location.

Cal U’s Welcome Center has a new location and a bold new look.

Instead of starting their campus visit experience in Eberly Hall, future students and their families now meet with Admissions Office staff in the Natali Student Center, where a portion of the bookstore has been remodeled to welcome future Vulcans.

University logos and the ‘Unlock Your Story’ message set the scene for visitors, who follow CDC guidelines during their modified campus tour. Large wall panels in Vulcan red feature a campus map, high-impact images and fun facts about Cal U.

TV screens welcome future students by name, and a life-size cutout of mascot Blaze is the perfect partner for Instagram-worthy selfies.

Facilities Management staff remodeled and painted the space; Cal U’s creative services team designed the room décor. Wayfinding signage is being installed throughout the student center to guide visitors from the parking are behind the student center to the Welcome Center on the first floor.

“It’s important to make a strong first impression, and the new Welcome Center does exactly that,” said T. David Garcia, vice president for Enrollment Management.

“It’s a welcoming space that never lets you forget where you are or why you’ve come to California. It’s the ideal start to a new student’s Cal U journey.”

The Admissions Office offers Vulcan Visit experiences by appointment at 10 and 2 p.m. weekdays. To keeps groups small, each future student may bring no more than two guests; face coverings are required while on campus.

In addition to the two-hour Vulcan Visit, families can explore Cal U via a private Express Campus Tour, an hourlong guided walking tour that does not enter buildings; a drive-through tour guided by Admissions staff, who ride in a separate vehicle; or a variety of virtual options, including a Virtual Open House event Oct. 12.
