Dr. Maria Scott-Bollman, superintendent and elementary principal in the Forbes Road School District, will speak at 7 p.m. April 22 as part of California University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School Speaker Series.
Sponsored by the School of Graduate Studies and Research at Cal U, the speaker series invites engagement with “great minds and important ideas” in a virtual environment.
Scott-Bollman — who earned her doctorate in education and administration leadership, her superintendent letter of eligibility and her master’s degree in education from Cal U — will present “It Takes More than Drive: 10 Shortcuts on the Path to Career Success.” Visit https://calu.zoom.us/j/94417927640 to join the virtual presentation.
“Dr. Scott-Bollman’s message is inspirational and frank in the proposed path to success,” said Dr. Yugo Ikach, dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Research. “Her recipe is part courage, part work ethic, a dose of common sense and a unique ingredient that only the individual can provide.”
In her seven years at Forbes Road, located in Fulton County, Pa., Scott-Bollman has served as special education director and district principal, grades 4-12.
She came to Forbes Road from the Bedford Area School District, where she was project director of the Keystones to Opportunity initiative. She has taught dual enrollment English, senior English and AP English language, and was voted 2012 Best Teacher in Bedford County by readers of the Bedford Gazette.
Scott-Bollman has also written numerous education grants, including Spring Cove School District’s $4 million Digital Schools grant.
Prior to her career in education, Scott-Bollman was a communications consultant, writer and events planner for a corporate clientele including Heinz Pet Products, Vera Wang and Weight Watchers International. She co-wrote the self-help book called Talk to the Mirror: Feel Great about Yourself Each and Every Day with Florine Mark of Weight Watchers.
