Daniela Vega, Chilean-born actress and mezzo-soprano singer is best known for her performance in the Academy-Award winning film A Fantastic Woman.[1] She began singing opera at Club Bizarre, a Santiago nightspot, before gaining a starring role in the solo show, La Mujer Mariposa (The Butterfly Woman), a work about transitioning. [2] Vega was a presenter at the 2018 Academy Awards, making history as the first transgender woman to present at an Academy Awards ceremony. [1] She survived violent attacks from teenage peers and later, as an adult, after transitioning, but credits those experiences for making her resilient. [3] Vega also credits music and the arts for saving her life.[3]
