Captain Kristen Griest, a graduate of West Point Academy, was one of the first two women to earn Ranger tabs in the United States Military. Her military service to the United States includes serving as a military police officer, deployments to the Middle East, and successful entry and completion of the Ranger school pilot program- one of the first women to attend the training. Despite this achievement, Greist was not permitted to serve in leadership roles due to policies about women and combat within the US military. Due to a historic change in the laws by the Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter in 2015, allowing women to serve in combat positions, Griest was the first ever female Infantry Officer in the United States. She continues to serve her country and holds multiple prestigious positions in the military.
