If you are a student in the Department of Early, Middle, and Special Education and you want to complete a field experience course in May, 2013, EDU 501 Urban Field may be what you are looking for. EDU 501 can fulfll the requirement for either a K-4 field course, a 4-8 field course or a multicultural education course In EDU 501 Urban Field, you will be placed in a school in the Pittsburgh School District for two weeks, Monday, May 20 - Friday, May 31, 2013 and you will follow your host teacher's 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. schedule. You will be required to plan and teach three lessons in addition to observing, assisting and reflecting upon your experiences in the classroom.
To be eligible for EDU 501 you must have completed your program appropriate Introduction to Education Course and Instruction and Assessment Course by the end of the spring 2013 semester. Based upon your program of study, those courses would be ELE 200 and ELE 220 OR ELM 200 and ELM 220.
Registration for EDU 501 is a two-step process: 1) Register online. 2) Complete and submit an Application Form no later than Thursday, March 14, 2013. This application form will provide Dr. Armitage the information needed to place you into an appropriate classroom. Application Forms are available on the bulletin board outside Dr. Armitage's Keystone 308 office.
