Activists in Action: Free the Girls and Human Trafficking
Activist Club and the Women’s Studies Program are co-sponsoring an awareness campaign followed by activities and workshops. We will talk about what it means to be an activist, and ways to get involved. There will be several stations where participants can engage in activities and/or educational workshop revolving around human trafficking, bringing awareness of Free the Girls, letter-writing campaigns, etc.
This event is the start of the 2nd Annual Free the Girls Bra Drive, sponsored by the Activist Club and the Women’s Studies Program. Activists in Action will bring light to these important topics, and this bra drive is an easy way to get involved and make a difference. It is a nonprofit organization that collects new or gently used bras to send to women in Mozambique Africa, and these women were either survivors of human trafficking that had been sold into sexual slavery or had no other means to support themselves other than to enter into the sex trade. Bras are considered a luxury item in Mozambique, Africa, and the women can sell these and make enough money to stay out of the sex trade. We will be collecting bras the entire month of March in Azorsky 136.
The event will be March 5, 2013 at 11:00am in Duda 210. For more information, email Dr. McClintock-Comeaux at firstname.lastname@example.org or Daelynn Roach at email@example.com.
