Jonathan E. wharton '18 - Legal Studies 

 

On August 27, 2018, Jonathan E. Wharton was officially sworn in as the new chief of police in Upper St. Clair Township, PA.Jonathan Horton outside of building.

An Upper St. Clair resident for over 40 years, Wharton joined the Upper St. Clair Township Police Department in 1991, being promoted to sergeant in 2012 and to lieutenant in 2017.

Wharton graduated from PennWest California with his M.S. in Legal Studies: Criminal Justice degree in May of 2018. He is also a graduate of the elite FBI National Academy and holds numerous certifications in professional law enforcement training.

A proven and respected leader in the community, Wharton credits his experience at PennWest California for giving him the edge in the expansion of his knowledge and leadership skills. 

“The unique M.S. in Legal Studies: Criminal Justice concentration provided me with an opportunity to take my criminal justice knowledge to the next level by expanding into areas of law and public policy," Wharton says.

"The practical knowledge and skills gained in this highly substantive, niche program will serve me well in my new role as chief.  I cannot sufficiently thank Dr. Toras and her highly-regarded expert faculty for their support and attentiveness during my tenure at Cal.”
